This tutorial series introduces learners to the fundamentals of ArcGIS Online as a browser-based GIS platform for creating, editing, and sharing spatial data. Designed for beginners or those transitioning from desktop GIS systems, this series focuses on essential skills and workflows for building maps, managing GIS data, and publishing interactive projects.
Participants will learn how to move from raw data to interactive web maps, style and design those maps, use the StoryMaps platform, and integrate mapping into research, teaching, and public-facing projects.
This series will cover:
- Core operations and programs in ArcGIS Online, as well as UCLA user policies
- Creating and configuring feature layers directly in ArcGIS Online
- Adding, editing, and styling point, line, and polygon data
- Importing datasets from CSV, spreadsheets, and existing GIS files
- Using basemaps and configuring map visualizations
- Georeferencing images aligning spatial data with reference maps
- Georeferencing addresses
- Building and sharing interactive web maps and simple applications in StoryMaps
- Working in groups in ArcGIS
