Creating Spatial Networks with Open Source Software

10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Zoom

Networks are everywhere, moving through digital and physical environments. Participants in this hands-on workshop will learn how to create spatial networks using QGIS, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, pgRouting, and Python. Designed for researchers, students, and practitioners working with geographic or historical data and limited experience with spatial software, this session walks you through using network data to create spatial datasets in QGIS, modeling and storing them in PostGIS, generating routing graphs with pgRouting, and automating analyses and the process with Python/Jupyter notebooks.

Participants will understand how to create, query, visualize, and analyze network structures such as roads, paths, or movement flows using open-source tools that can be applied to any number of projects.
