The XRI Design Subcommittee is excited to welcome Francesca Albrezzi, PhD, Manager and Digital Research Specialist for GIS and Visualization in the Office of Advanced Research Computing and XRI co-chair, for a session on volumetric video capture.
Francesca will introduce the core concepts behind volumetric capture and share how the tools and techniques are being used in current research and creative projects. She will highlight key workflows and examples of bringing volumetric assets into XR platforms, showing how immersive capture can enhance presence, interaction, and storytelling.
Attendees will gain a clear sense of how volumetric video can support the design of immersive experiences and inspire new possibilities for XR practice.

Speaker Bio
Francesca Albrezzi, PhD, is a digital humanist and art historian who serves as a Digital Research Specialist and Manager of the GIS and Visualization Research Technology Group at UCLA’s Office of Advanced Research Computing. Her work explores the intersection of technology and culture, with a specific focus on how immersive modalities like VR and AR transform museum practices and scholarly publishing. She has develop innovative digital research tools, projects, and initiatives for premier institutions including the Smithsonian and the Getty Research Institute and recently co-authored a second edition of The Digital Humanities Coursebook (2025). Francesca also serves as an Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal for Digital Art History (DAHJ) and the director of the virtual gallery.
