Installing and managing scientific software and its dependencies can be challenging in both local and high-performance computing environments. Container technologies such as Docker, Podman, and Apptainer help address these challenges by providing isolated, portable, and reproducible software environments. By packaging applications together with their dependencies, containers promote consistent execution across different systems and reduce compatibility issues.

This workshop will introduce the fundamentals and practical applications of containerization for scientific computing, with an emphasis on Docker-based workflows. It also provides participants with practical skills for developing reproducible and portable computational environments. Participants will learn how to write Dockerfiles for common scientific workloads, build and configure Docker images, and publish container images to cloud-based registries for sharing, distribution, and reuse.
