Software Licensing

Software Licensing

Software Central serves the UCLA community by negotiating, acquiring, implementing, distributing, managing and supporting campus-wide agreements for the software products and services commonly used in support of UCLA’s teaching, research and public service missions. Software Central administers bulk purchases of software licenses from many software publishers. Software is made available via download. Software Central is able to accept only UCLA FAUs (full accounting units) as payment. The Software Central website provides a product list and a list of University software agreements. You must access the order form through the product list. Call (310) 206-4780 or email Software Central if you're interested in software that is not listed.

Cloud Licensing

Cloud services provide users with on-demand, easy to access applications, resources, and services. When data is stored or accessed from "the cloud," that means it no longer located on local servers. Examples of cloud services include data storage and backup solutions, web-based email services and hosted office suites. These services are accessible online from almost any device that can connect to the Internet -- smartphone, tablet, and computer -- and offer greatly enhanced collaboration and mobility.

Faculty and staff use of cloud services offered by UCLA must comply with applicable University and campus policies, notably policies relating to the protection of University data and the UC Electronic Communications Policy. This includes observing the data use agreements, which are based on the UCLA Data Classification Standard and University-negotiated agreements established to help safeguard information about individuals and other confidential information for which the campus is a steward. Always employ due care when processing, storing, transmitting, or communicating sensitive information. Violation of these data use requirements or other campus policies may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
